Letter from Judge Frank H. Roberts

December 12, 1980

Dear Mr. Whitson:

At the end of each calendar year I have taken time to review my trial notes in those cases tried before me in order to select for special commendation six lawyers who have done outstanding work.

I want to commend you for your fine performance as counsel for the defendant in the case of Chamberlain vs. Harney, a difficult personal injury action. Your excellent preparation for trial produced a fine trial brief and polished suggested jury instructions.

Especially noteworthy was the manner in which you protected the record. Skillfully you cross-examined the plaintiff and his medical expert. Your closing argument to the jury is the best I have heard since being on this bench where the issue was limited to damages only.

It was helpful to have your objections to the introduction of evidence directed to the court without argument unless invited and free from colloquy with opposing counsel.

Best wishes to you and your family for a joyous Holiday Season and for a Happy New Year.

Sincerely yours,

Frank H. Roberts
